Our Story

A discreet Georgian townhouse tucked just off London’s iconic King’s Road, Sydney House Chelsea blends understated contemporary style with the charm of its historic surroundings. Set within one of Chelsea’s most vibrant neighbourhoods, the hotel offers an intimate, residential atmosphere reminiscent of a chic bijou pied-à-terre. Fresh, bright and elegantly modern in its design, it provides a calming retreat from the city while remaining steps away from its energy. Favoured by many as an invaluable London bolt hole, Sydney House Chelsea is a place where thoughtful comfort, subtle luxury and a sense of privacy come together effortlessly.

Our History

Built in 1829 as two townhouses, the Grade II listed buildings were converted from private residences into a hotel in the 1980’s. As the tallest building on the street, taking prominence over its neighbours, it was named Sydney House.

Andrew and Christina Brownsword bought Sydney House Chelsea in 2001. It became the second hotel in their collection, seven years after the purchase of The Bath Priory in 1994.

Underground
Sydney House Chelsea is a 5 min walk from south Kensington underground station piccadilly line and circle line.

Air
Our closest airport is Heathrow airport, which is 45 miles away, take the piccadilly line eastbound directly to south Kensington station. The journey takes about 45-50 minutes from the station is 5-minute walk to Sydney House Chelsea. And by taxi, the most direct door to door option. The journey can take 45 minutes to over an hour, heavily dependent on traffic.

Other airports

London City Airport:
Very convenient for central London and the financial district, located to the east. A Taxi would be the most direct option to Chelsea.

Gatwick Airport:
Located south of London. You would need to take a train to a central station like Victoria or London bridge and then connect via underground or taxi.

Stansted Airport:
Located far to the north of London. Take Stansted express to Liverpool Street station then take the underground (circle line or Hammersmith & City line) westbound to south Kensington station.

We have one dog-friendly room, a Double Deluxe Room. Please call to arrange your booking. A charge of £20 per dog, per night applies and includes a bed and water bowl.

While dogs are welcome to enjoy our local walks, they are not permitted in the restaurant. Please keep your dog on a lead in shared spaces and use the designated dog bins provided. If you need to leave your dog unattended for a brief period, please notify reception so our team is aware. All dogs are welcome!

Guide dogs and accredited assistance dogs are welcome throughout the hotel.

Children of all ages are welcome to stay at the hotel and infants (aged 0 – 2) stay for free. Children (aged 3 – 16) will be on the same rate (e.g. bed & breakfast) as the adults on their reservation.

Laundry services are available during your stay for an additional charge. Your items will be returned to you within 24 hours. If you need an iron and an ironing board, they can be found in your room.  Dry Cleaning is available locally but is subject to availability.

To better serve our guests, we are excited to be introducing interconnecting rooms shortly. While this project is underway, our team will make every effort to allocate your rooms next to each other, based on availability.

Sydney House Chelsea does not have dedicated family rooms. However, we would be delighted to accommodate your family across multiple guest rooms and will do our best to ensure they are located close together, subject to availability.

Breakfast is served from 7am – 11am. If you require an earlier breakfast, please speak with Reception who will be happy to arrange a light option.

Can I book a private event at Sydney House Chelsea? Although Sydney House Chelsea does not offer private event spaces, we have a meeting rooms available for the whole day. Contact Reception to enquire, call 020 7376 7711 or email reception@sydneyhousechelsea.co.uk.

You are free to smoke outside. Please don’t smoke or vape inside our public rooms or inside your own room. Smoking indoors is prohibited and will incur a charge.
